The Easiest Video Recording Setup

iPad video setup

What would this look like if it were easy?

That’s a question I ask myself a lot lately, mainly because my brain loves to overcomplicate things.

Truth is, I’ve been using my iPad Pro for numerous video projects for 3 VERY BIG reasons:

  1. I can Air Drop to my Mac when I’m ready for editing or uploading the recording to YouTube. If you’re a Mac person or part of a team that uses Macs, this will make your decision very easy.
  2. I can record videos longer than 30 minutes and not concern myself with having to patch together longer files.
  3. iPad audio is okay, especially if I don’t have to fight “auditorium sound” issues.

After using different camera setups and feeling the pain of file handling, file length limitations and sound issues, it’s nice to have a fallback solution that works in numerous closeup scenarios.

Let’s talk about those scenarios.

Setting up the iPad for the best recording result requires:

  1. You can position the iPad within 3-4 feet of the podium for best audio clarity. See video sample below.
  2. You can shoot directly from the front of the podium, or just off to the side.
  3. If you add more distance, it’s important that the speaker talks directly toward the iPad.

Other things to consider

Although the iPad can livestream to Facebook, you’re more than likely looking at using it for YouTube instead. You’ll have far better quality with an uploaded video recording versus a livestream.

The iPad recording setup is flexible and will work in small offices, along with having super fast setup without complexity.
